It is well known that director Mani Rathnam is making a Hindi movie with the famous couple Abhishek-Aishwarya Bachchan. Aishwarya will also be seen in the Tamil version. After a long wait, Mani Rathnam has decided to cast actor Prithviraj opposite Aishwarya. He thought that Prithviraj, the most happening actor these days, has the perfect maturity and acting skills that will fit the bill.

This will be a big boost to Prithviraj’s career, which is on the upswing ever since he made his debut in Kanaa Kandein (also spelt as Kanaa Kanden). The actor has the maturity and ability to take things in his stride, establishing himself as one of the frontline actors in Tamil films. He was romantic in Parijatham. Filmmaker Pan Nalin’s patience may finally pay off. After having sat on his offer for lead roles in his biopic on Gautam Buddha, the Bachchans - Amitabh, Aishwarya and Abhishek - are now reportedly talking with the Paris based filmmaker.

To begin with Nalin was keen to sign up just Aishwarya as Yashodhara, Gautam Buddha’s wife. However, when Aishwarya Rai demurred, citing her family commitments as Bachchan bahu, Nalin upped the ante by offering Abhishek Bachchan the role of Buddha and Amitabh Bachchan, the role of Buddha’s father ‘Shuddhodhana’.

Aishwarya, who won the Miss World beauty pageant in 1994, waited for three years before making her debut in acting. Although Aishwarya was approached by several Bollywood producers to act in their films, it was Mani Ratnam whom she chose as the director for her debut film, Iruvar which was released 1997 with Mohanlal as her leading man. Ram Gopal Varma’s latest offering ‘Sarkar Raj’ has not yet got released, but not itself the news of Abishek Bachchan and his Wife Aishwarya teaming up for an untitled movie of the master director Mani Rathnam is already attracting enough interest.

What is Aishwarya Rai’s dilemma? She is at a point where she little choice but to accept one film but only at the cost of declining another equally high-profile film which she would not like to miss. Here are the details:

Aishwarya had happily agreed to work in a Manirathnam movie, slated to begin from June 2008, long before she accepted a role in Robot. But it will now be possible for her to appear in Manirathnam’s movie only if she opts out of Robot, which will begin at approximately the same time. She even shed 6 kg for the role as advised by director Shankar. Now, when shooting of Robot is about to begin, Manirathnam’s movie is also ready to start shooting and requires Ash’s presence. Manirathnam’s movie also stars Abishek Bachchan, another solid gold-plated reason for Ash; the plot revolves around the bickering and problems of a newly-married couple.
