THE much-talked about wedding date for Aishwarya Rai, 33, and Abhishek Bachchan, 31, is slated for 19 Mar.And the event looks set to be a bigone.
This is despite the two families wanting it to be an intimate affair, according to the prospective groom’s father, actor Amitabh Bachchan.
The Indo-Asian News Service, quoting sources, said the wedding is expected to be held on that day in Rajasthan.
It was initially reported that the nuptials would be last month.
Amitabh, 66, apparently sent his close friends to Jodhpur to finalise the bookings at the Umaid Bhavan Palace, where the ceremony is to take place.
They were also reportedly told to book four other hotels in the area.
The palace is where Elizabeth Hurley and husband Arun Nayar will hold post-wedding parties this week.
But according to some reports, Aishwarya and Abhishek’s wedding planners might have to think of another location.
NOT ENOUGH ROOMS
Why? Because there may not be enough hotel rooms in Jodhpur to accommodate the more than 6,000guests expected.
A source said: ‘They want to hold the wedding ceremonies in a heritage property. So they are now looking for a city that can provide them with the required setting. Gwalior and Jaipur seem to be the frontrunners.’
The Bachchan family had reportedly also considered booking the Jaipur City Palace.
The Daily News and Analysis reported that the order to print up the wedding invites has been placed. Each invitation will cost 5,000 rupees ($172) and can be preserved as a memento.
There have also been reports of a 300,000-rupee ($10,407) bridal outfit for Aishwarya.
Amitabh told TheTimes of India earlier this week: ‘We still haven’t got a date. The two of them are so busy, we haven’t been able to sit down and work it out.
‘Now, Abhishek’s schedule (for his new film Drona) is postponed. So I’m hoping we’ll be able to sit down and finally work out a date.
‘Everyone is impatient. So are Aishwarya and Abhishek.’
He added: ‘I think far too much is being made of this affair. It’s just another wedding.’
Yeah, right.
