Aishwarya Rai – the new sex symbol?
Published by seo4india October 27th, 2006 in NewsThe gorgeous Aishwarya Rai has got back into shape to play a glamorous seductress in the western mould in the racy thriller Dhoom 2 .
Throughout the sequel of Dhoom , Ash as Sunheri is attired in skimpy western clothes that reveal her now stunning figure which is departure from the norm as in her ten-year long career in Bollywood, Ash has consistently essayed demure, quintessentially Indian roles, that emphasized her stunning good looks but not her svelte body.
Even when she showed skin, Ash did so with muted sexuality.
But now while excited about playing an altogether different role, Ash also appears circumspect, perhaps apprehensive that she may get to be tagged with the dubious title of India’s sex symbol at this stage in her career.
Acknowledging that she plays a different role in ‘Dhoom 2’ Ash says, “I have so far largely played Indian characters…this appearance, in the western mould is definitely new.”
In her recent appearances on TV to promote ‘Dhoom 2’ Ash has emphasized the character of Sunheri not her attire, “The best part is that it is not just about the look. Not just about makeup hair and clothes but the character. It is the kind of character that I have not played before.”
Ash obliviously does not want her fans to read too much from her attire.
Ash got the Sunheri role following her performance in the hit song ‘Kajrare Kajrare’ in Bunty Aur Bubli .
Aditya Chopra , who produced both ‘Bunty Aur Bubli’ and ‘Dhoom 2’, sort of pulled Ash out of the demure girl closet for the Kajrare.. number to see how well she would fit into a glamorous role. She rocked, of course, and was rewarded with the ‘Dhoom 2’ role.
“Adi told me, ‘You are always playing regal characters…’. He felt I should play Sunheri,” Ash recalls.
