Speaking with the press for the first time since her wedding to Abhishek Bachchan on 20 April 2007, Aishwarya waxed happiness and family.

“I am feeling wonderful. I am very happy. By the grace of God, everything is wonderful,” she told a news channel in Cannes, according to PTI.

The actress is still not used to being addressed as Aishwarya Bachchan.

“I was kind of getting used to that because it’s the first time you’re being addressed by a new surname and I’ve maybe done a double take at times but pleasantly so, it makes us smile, so it’s been good,” she told AP.

Aishwarya, 33, walked the red carpet with husband Abhishek at the inauguration of the 60th Annual Film Festival on Wednesday, May 16, 2007 with the screening of the film “My Blueberry Nights.”

She was at the film festival as part of L’Oreal’s team of models.

Aishwarya’s father in law, Amitabh Bachchan, is also expected at Cannes, making his very first appearance at the festival, to promote his films – Cheeni Kum and Eklavya.

Aishwarya praised parents-in-law Amitabh and Jaya saying she had found wonderful parents in them.

When quizzed if married life had changed anything for her she responded, “No. I am just a normal girl in a wonderful time of my life, a very special time. It’s fantastic. It’s all things good.”

The former Miss World (1994) is excited about her forthcoming film Sarkar II where she gets to act with both Abhishek and father-in-law Amitabh.

“…which will be a kind of working with family as we are all related now. It’s always a privilege to work with actors like Abhishek and an iconic legend like my father-in-law,” Aishwarya said.
