The film that promised to make Aishwarya Rai an international face may not have a big release after all.

Much has been written about Ash’s first Hollywood flick The Last Legion which is directed by Doug Lefler and stars Ben Kingsley and Colin Firth (opposite Ash). The flick was supposed to catapult Ash’s popularity worldwide. Alas, it may not happen.

Reports have it that the film will have a limited theatrical release in the US and will be mostly released on the DVD format.

Despite the film’s star value, ‘The Last Legion’ is not really a huge production by Hollywood standards.

In the opinion of trade analysts, for many movies it is more financially viable to release them on DVDs than on theatres where huge amounts are spent in the film’s publicity.

‘The Last Legion’ is set to release on August 24 in the US. It is also possible that the film may not release in India at all.

The movie, set against the backdrop of the fall of Rome in 476 AD, has Ash playing a Byzantine warrior. For her role in the film, Ash learnt to ride horses and fight with swords.
