Aishwarya Rai wins best actress award for Guru

Bachchan fans may have been upset at Abhishek and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s widely acclaimed Guru having been denied the best actor and actress awards at the likes of Filmfare and Star screen awards in favor of the likes of Kareena Kapoor and Shahrukh Khan, but finally Aishwarya Rai, if not Abhishek Bachchan, has something to show for it.

The Central European Bollywood awards decided to award Aishwarya Rai the Best Actress award for 2007 for her work in the Mani Ratnam film last week.

Though after the film’s release, it was widely expected that both Abhishek and Aishwarya Bachchan would sweep the awards for Guru, none of the typical awards in India awarded the film which was both universal critical success as well as the dominant box office grosser for much of the year of 2007.
