Filmmaker Rajiv Menon had recently announced his plan to remake the 1973 movie ‘Abhimaan’ with Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan in lead roles.
However, if the latest buzz from tinsel town is to go by, the project may not materialize as planned because Pawan Kumar – producer of the original movie starring Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan – is not willing to part with the film’s copyright.
Rather, Pawan Kumar has himself been working on the project for some time now and had even approached the Bachchans (Abhishek and Aishwarya) for the lead roles in the film about a year back without getting any response from the superstar couple.
Kumar believes the subject of ‘Abhimaan’ is still relevant in today’s times when married couples are employed in same jobs and wives often tend to perform better than husbands.
The script of the 1973 movie is being reworked and given a contemporary context. Kumar does not rule out the possibility of approaching Ash and Abhi again for the film.
So if thing go as planned, Ash and Abhi would still be a part of the ‘Abhimaan’ remake, but with a different producer and director.
