Aishwarya Rai and hubby Abhishek Bachchan are cooped up in the jungles of Kerala, shooting for their next movie. However on Pappa Rai’s birthday, Ash took a break to fly to Mumbai to be with her ailing father.

Ash’s father has been receiving treatment for cancer in the recent past. Aishwarya Rai’s biggest regret is in not being at his side due to work commitments. So on his birthday, she surprised her family by flying down and spending a few days with them.

His birthday was celebrated as a small, private function with only Ash’s family and the Bachchans present.

Abhishek Bachchan however was unable to join them and sent his regrets to the family. Junior Bachchan said that Rai’s family is like a second family to him.
