After having played the doting ‘bhau’ on Friday at Tina Ambani’s 13th Harmony Art Show at Nehru Centre, Worli, Aishwarya played the carefree daughter in the company of her mother, Brinda Rai yesterday.

We caught up with the insanely beautiful Aishwarya Rai at the first look presentation of Sikander Kher starrer Summer of 2007 at The Club, Andheri, Mumbai on Tuesday, March 25.

The former Miss World (1994), who looked svelte and youthful, was at the event to show solidarity with Sikander Kher, a childhood friend of her husband Abhishek Bachchan, who is presently in Miami on the set of Karan Johar’s Dostana.

The former Miss World ignored her former roommate Shweta Menon when she came to meet her in a recent party. Shweta was both surprised and upset by her gesture.

With the news that Elizabeth Banks will play Laura Bush in Oliver Stone’s movie on President George W. Bush titled “W”, we’re looking into other ties between politics and movies. We have to admit that the following struck even us as odd.

According to the Economic Times of India, Pakistan’s new Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gillani became a big fan of Bollywood star Aishwarya Rai while in prison.

Aishwarya, now Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, appears in Jodhaa Akbar and the upcoming Pink Panther 2 with John Cleese. It’s not clear whether Gillani was forced to watch the Bollywood star or whether it was his choice. We’re thinking it was the latter.

On Sikander Kher

I know Sikku from Mohabbatein days… he was a young shy kid then! And then I met him again during Devdas. But I’ve actually got to know him the best as Abhishek’s younger brother. And we’ve always known that he has it in him to make it here and all I have to say is welcome to the club and best of luck!

I am here more for personal reasons than anything else. Sikku and the rest of his family are my family. They are a part of our lives and it gives me immense joy to be here at such a momentous occasion in Sikku’s life. Hollywood star Will Smith is a brilliant actor and has proved so after receiving appreciation for several of his roles. Some time back, the Hollywood star Will Smith was in India and during his visit he gushed about top bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai. Ash apparently even met up with Will Smith and they discussed several future projects. But now sources claim that recently Aishwarya turned down the opportunity to work alongside Will Smith in a super hero flick, John Hancock.

However this is apparently not the first time that our bollywood beauty, Ash has turned down the opportunity to star opposite Will in a Hollywood film. Earlier too Ash had refused two films, Hitch and The Seven Pounds due to various reasons. But this time round Ash supposedly turned down the Hollywood project opposite Will as she was putting her new family, the Bachchans before her career.

Ash confirms that she turned down two films with Will Smith; she says “That’s true; I had to say no to Will for The Seven Pounds and now again for this film, John Hancock.” However although Ash feels bad about turning down a film opposite the actor again, she feels that her reason is justified. “In Uttar Pradesh, the daughter-in-law is addressed as ‘bahurani’. In our house, that is how we address Aishwarya Rai. It is a most endearing expression and completely fulfilling in describing her presence in our home,” the Big B said in an interview.

The aging superstar cannot stop raving about his daughter-in-law’s performance in Ashutosh Gowariker’s period romance “Jodhaa-Akbar”. “I have often used the word ‘ethereal’ in some of my interviews earlier to describe a special moment or a person. For Aishwarya in J-A, I’d want to use that again for I lack the knowledge of finding an adequate substitute.”

The star of the Seventies, Eighties and Nineties derived his strength from his family, especially his parents. “Yes, our parents have been our life and strength. They shall remain with us… I think of them and remember them every step of my day,” the actor said.

Just last week we had wondered if we will ever see Aishwarya svelte again? Well we have got our answer. Our skepticism was obviously misplaced but sometimes it is a delight to be proven wrong!

Since the film is about five young friends Aishwarya’s youthful attire, skinny jeans and a sleeveless floral print top with ruffle detail on the neck, made the right statement. Prime Minister designate of Pakistan, Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani, who spent six years in prison starting 2001, says he watched Aishwarya films while there and is a fan of hers and Lata Mangeshkar.

“While in prison, I used to watch all of Aishwarya’s movies on my laptop besides listening to Lataji’s songs. And let me admit that I am a great fan of Aishwarya Rai now.”
