Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan would’ve liked nothing better than doing films with husband Abhishek Bachchan. She has on more than one occasion, told close friends that even professionally, being paired with Abhishek is what she is most comfortable with.

So when buddy Karan Johar offered Aishwarya a chance to work with Abhishek in Dostana, with the sunny beach-side atmosphere of Miami being a plus, she was all for it.

All seemed well, albeit, the role required her to romance not just Abhishek, but also John Abraham, and, finally walk away with a third man! The third man is to be played by none other than Bobby Deol, who makes a surprise entry at the end of Dostana. Karan Johar says, “Bobby has a very special role in the film.” Special indeed, because he gets the girl from Abhishek and John! Continue reading ‘Aishwarya Rai Bachchan can’t romance 3 men!’

External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee carried an unusual gift for Pakistan’s Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gillani when he visited Pakistan last week – a box full of Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai’s movies.

The 55-year-old Pakistani premier lists Aishwarya and Indian actor Shah Rukh Khan as his favourite film stars. He said it was a “pleasant surprise” when he unwrapped the gift and found it contained a number of DVDs of his favourite actress’ films. Continue reading ‘Pranab gifts Aishwarya’s films to Pak’

“Aishwarya’s performance was the most difficult to execute. Since she is a spectator to all the events happening around her, Ash has to react as much as the audience will react to the drama unfolding in front of their eyes”, opening lines from Bollywood’s most speculated director.

Sitting comfortably in his office with a steaming cup of coffee, Ramu starts from how he got his sterling cast together. “I have grown up seeing Amitabh Bachchan’s movies and his sheer aura inspired the first film on Sarkar. Without Bachchan there cannot be a Sarkar. And Abhishek Bachchan, well he is a better actor than his father. Very intelligent and very clear what he should and not do. He came at a time when family dramas and romantic films were ruling the roost and he tried to type cast himself with only failures to his name. When I wanted a son to carry on the Nagre legacy, it had to be someone who could take over from Bachchan. And who better than his son.”

Leafing through the Sarkar Raj booklet, Ramu stops at a picture of Ash. He is deep in thought looking at her image and so surprises me with this line, “Her beauty is so overpowering that casting her was the most difficult. But there is a certain dignity and poise that I thought would lend the perfect foil for her character. Hers is the most difficult part. There are no songs, great locales or dramatic scenes for Ash. She has to react and every reaction has to be that of a first time reaction. Expressing through her face without any dialogues is not easy and clearly, Ash has outdone herself.” Continue reading ‘Aishwarya Rai just a spectator in “Sarkar Raj’’

Appeased by the Bachchan walk to the Siddhivinayak temple early Tuesday, May 27, whatever else Lord Ganesha may handout as reward to the family, Amitabh has won many hearts, and a lot of traffic on his blog, from his ‘private act’ in a very public place.

Incidentally, Amitabh Bachchan announced the ‘private act’ in a public place, a day before embarking on it, for the press and his fans to take note of. Continue reading ‘Aishwarya and Abhishek walk the Amitabh talk – to Siddhivinayak:’

External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee carried a special gift for Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani during his recent visit to Pakistan a box full of movies of Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai.
Gilani, 55, who lists Aishwarya and Shahrukh Khan as his favourite film stars, said it was a “pleasant surprise” when he unwrapped the box presented to him by Mukherjee and found it was full of DVDs of movies starring the Indian actress.

The Prime Minister said Mukherjee’s aides might have found out about his favourite heroine from his book “Chah-e-Yousuf Say Sada”, in which he wrote about watching Aishwarya’s movies on his laptop while he was imprisoned during 2001-06 by the Pervez Musharraf regime. Ash has fond Cannes memories

The Cannes Film Festival has a big place in Aishwarya Rai’s heart. The Bollywood actress’ first time at Cannes was to promote the lavish love story Devdas in 2002. The Bride & Prejudice star attended last year’s French Riviera festival soon after her wedding to fellow film star Abhishek Bachchan.

“Last time, I got married just a month before so it was very special to be back here,” she told Associated Press Television News at Cannes on Wednesday. “It was literally like a reception welcome.”

About a year into married life, the former Miss World says she recommends it. Continue reading ‘Ash has fond Cannes memories’

Bollywood mega superstar Amitabh Bachchan has gone on the offensive on his blog yet again, this time on behalf of his gorgeous daughter-in- law Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

Reacting to an article that calls Ash a “demure bahurani” the Big wrote: “You speak of Aishwarya as a ‘demure bahurani’ who chooses to ‘stand behind quietly’. This is insufferable and I will not remain silent on such a serious issue as women’s liberty and equality in our society.”

Bachchan continued, “Aishwarya has continued an independent career since her marriage with the full family sup- port… Her mother- in-law is a Senator in the Indian Parliament, hardly a role model for a quiet bahu.” Continue reading ‘Amitabh Bachchan doesn’t like Aishwarya Rai being called demure’

The much awaited ‘Sarkar Raj’, a sequel to the highly acclaimed film ‘Sarkar’ by Ram Gopal Varma has been courting controversies since its inception. The most recent one being the length of the role played by Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in the flick.

According to reports, director Ram Gopal Varma (RGV) has cropped Ash’s role in the flick in lieu of the length and importance of the character. Sources close to RGV have indicated that the film was becoming too long and Ash’s character was distracting attention from the main character as well.

The film that brings the ‘Bachchan’ clan onscreen for the first time with Amitabh, Abhishek and Aishwarya sharing the screen space, is also the first post marriage movie for the couple. The film is set to release on June 6, 2008. Continue reading ‘Ramu cuts Aishwarya’s role in Sarkar Raj’
