When her sizzling presence on screen can set the box office on fire, can’t her alluring image script success at the ballot box

Bollywood diva Aishwarya Rai is yet to work her charm on the political stage, but a candidate wanting to contest as an independent in Vellore was confident of bagging votes — if he had the picture of the beauty queen as his election symbol.

However, Manithan’s bizarre request for the picture of Aishwarya as his election symbol did not go down well with the returning officer and Vellore district collector C Rajendran. “You better ask Abhishek Bachchan,” quipped the officer, before rejecting his nomination papers on technical grounds. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has ruled out working with her ex-boyfriends Salman Khan and Vivek Oberoi. Rumours had been spreading that she would be appearing alongside Vivek in Sautish Kashik’s new big budget romance Tansen, but the director denies this. “I’ve been getting so many calls from people asking me whether I have cast Vivek Oberoi in Tansen along with Abhishek and Aishwarya and the answer is no such thing has happened,” explianed Kaushik. “I’ve not approached Vivek, Salman Khan or even Aishwarya Rai Bachchan for the film. I had only mentioned Abhishek’s name saying he is someone who can play the role well as he also has a certain star status and fan following.”

Meanwhile, expectations are mounting over the Aish-Rajnikanth movie Endhiran which it is now rumoured has reached a budget of 120cr, making it India’s most expensive movie. The signature item number alone is said to have cost 30cr and Aishwarya’s fee is rumoured to be in the region of 6cr. However, the over-run on the production dates may be costing Aishwarya dearly as it’s making it difficult for her to sign new projects and her absence from the screen since Sarkar Raj may also be damaging her career.

Aishwarya’s other big budget project, Raavan, has also been having some difficulties. Director Mani Ratnam was rushed off to hospital recently with a suspected heart attack and not released for a week. There have also been some disagreements on set with a tiff developing between the South’s leading director and the North’s leading actress. Mani wanted her to shoot a scene without any make-up and Aishwarya was apparently not very happy about it. In addition, there have been problems over shooting scenes in areas designated as natural reserves.

Guess what I heard… Matt Damon’s Bourne Trilogy has ‘inspired’ two upcoming biggies in B’wood – Saif Ali Khan’s home production Agent Vinod and Delhi Belly director Abhinay Deo’s film Crooked.

And what’s more, while Crooked stars husband-wife duo Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai (surprisingly, not opposite each other), Agent Vinod directed by Sriram Raghavan of Johhny Gaddar fame stars power couple Saif and Kareena (very much opposite each other).

According to Crooked producer Ritesh Sidhwani his film is an espionage thriller on the lines of Bourne Identity. But a birdie tells me there’s more similarities than just that, both in terms of basic plot and the treatment. Continue reading ‘Home » Bollywood » It’s Saif-Bebo Vs Abhi-Ash now! Comedy and entertainment are no longer restricted to Bollywood. They have seeped into the media reportage of the happenings in the industry.

One such funny rumour that took tinsel town by surprise was of Aishwarya Rai agreeing to act in a film with her two ex beaus – Salman Khan and Vivek Oberoi . The rumour said that director Satish Kaushik had managed to do the impossible by getting Ash’s nod to star opposite the two male actors in his movie titled ‘Tansen’.

Now, this is a kind of rumour that stumped the happily married Ash more than anyone. While she has graciously chosen to ignore the gossip rather than waste her time denying it, Kaushik, who has been flooded with calls about the casting coup, is upset, to say the least.
